Fear is always there with any action sports.
I believe that everybody has faced their fears while snowboarding in the past.
Also not many tips around describing how to overcome a fear.
But this article will teach you a concrete idea to get over it.
Let’s find out what the fear is and how we can solve it.
What is Fear?
We first should understand what the fear is.
Then we can analyze and find out the way to face them.
Dictionary describes Fear as …
“It’s the unpleasant feeling you have when you think that you are in danger.”
What a perfect description!
So when we feel fear, we will feel being unpleasant and in dangerous situation.
It is because our brain remembers a close situation in the past.
While snowboarding for example, crashing on the jump or jibbing items, or on steeps and moguls.
We visualize bad scenarios when we are feeling fear, even if it hasn't happened yet.
So if the bad scenario doesn't happen or a good scenario comes up instead, we can destroy a fear.
Figure out exactly what the fear is
Try writing down all the fears that you face now and in the past.
And find out a reason why it’s scary for you.
Now let’s try to figure out the fear in more detail.
What makes you scared can be sorted out into 6 issues “TTPPEE”.
We will sort out all of your listed fears after learning the 6 issues.
You might think that you are not ready because of your skill?
Get enough basic skill training on an easier environment.
And get solid skill and a confidence in those environments.
Or step down what you are working on when things are not going well.
For example, trick difficulty, speed, size of the item, slope angle, and so on.
Isn't it too early to hit this?
Even if you have enough skill to hit it, you shouldn't hit it in your first run of the day.
Did you follow proper progress to hit it?
You should be good at all basic moves, speed and timing in advance.
Have a plan and hit it at the right timing.
Are you warmed up?
Do you have an injury?
Aren't you tired?
Your body must be ready before challenge.
Are you mentally ready to hit it?
Do you understand why you don’t have confidence?
You might visualize bad results even though it won't happen?
Solve all worries before the challenge.
Also understand what level your excitement is about.
When you are scared, your excitement is at a low level.
Have some way to boost your excitement such as listening to music, talking to yourself with strong words, visualize fun result and so on.
Check weather, snow, visibility, and so on.
Is the environment in a good condition to challenge something?
Too many people on the slope?
Are park features groomed well?
Is the terrain too icy?
You can go only if the environment is ready.
If you feel uncomfortable with your equipment, you will lose your concentration.
Check your equipment and make sure it's all good.
Check also your setups whether or not it’s suitable for your challenge.
Now let’s sort out all your fear into TTPPEE.

And make a plan to solve issues in your way.
Your fear is sorted out to the issue.
If you have more than 2 reasons on your scary list, give them the order of priority.
And solve issues one by one from the first to the last on the list.
After solving all issues, you have to face the fear again directly.
Then you will be ready to go.
To help facing the fear directory, ask yourself 2 questions.
If your answer is “Yes”, just commit!
Because overcoming these fears will guarantee your improvement.
So you can accept this scary situation as a positive situation.
Commitment gives you more mental power.
And as a result, you can prevent all negative thoughts coming up in your mind.
However commitment against fear is still hard.
Then you can try this routine that my athletes are doing at the starting area in the contest.
It helps to eliminate fear and help your commitment too.
Remember, all emotions coming up in your mind, they are all reflecting your mental habit.
But unwanted emotion is able to change if you change your mental habit in a good way.
