I’m going to answer some of the question you guys asked on my blog!
This time about trouble at the lip with a backside spin!
Whenever I try to throw a backside spin, I feel like the edge of my board is getting stuck at the lip and it freaks me out. Why does it happen?
People who feel like the edge of their boards is getting stuck on something while taking off backside spin usually means that…
It will obviously hinder your board to spin into the backside direction, right?
It upsets your balance causing you to feel extremely unstable and that leads to feeling scared and freaked out before you actually do the trick.
Firstly, you must learn to put your weight on the toe edge while taking off with your posture standing straight on the toe edge.
So, your heel edge won’t get caught on the snow while taking off your spin even if your board looks flat.
But at same time, you can learn the timing for takeoff to prevent your board to start rotating too early.
Your board start to rotate after upper body rotation which means that your upper body started to rotate much earlier than your lower body.
So your attention is more on the upper body rotation rather than your board taking off nice and clean.
Try not to move your board before the board actually leaves the ground.
As for the feeling of how to do it right…
If you delay your timing like this, the edge won’t get caught because your board start to rotate after takeoff.
So, you can execute a backside spin even if your weight is on the heel edge while taking off.
And if you execute the trick while you see the scenery is in front of you, you delay rotating your upper body so that your lower body and board will start rotating even late too.
As for how to practice this…
You can practice like that.
1 and 2 are especially important but, keep the image of spinning in mind while practicing straight jumps because your body won’t move when you’re actually doing the spin trick if you don’t.
Keep that in mind!
We are always happy to answer to your question.
